Available by request in San Dimas
Nobody has one of these on a menu this week, but the 14 chefs cooking in San Dimas work to order. Open one and tell us what you need. That request is how a diet gets onto menus here.
- Milk, butter, cream, cheese and yoghurt are out — including the butter finish most restaurant-style dishes rely on.
- Richness comes from olive oil, coconut milk, cashew cream, tahini and stock reductions rather than substitutes that taste like a compromise.
- Lactose free is not the same as dairy free; say which one you need, because milk protein survives the former.
- Kitchens are independent and not allergen-certified, so allergy requests go through the form and get confirmed with the chef.
Dairy free meal prep leaves out milk, butter, cream, cheese and yoghurt — which is more of the food supply than people expect, since butter and cream are how most prepared food gets its richness. Cooking around that well takes intent rather than omission.
Chefs on Prepared do it with olive and avocado oil, pan sauces built on stock and wine, coconut milk in curries and braises, cashew cream and tahini where a dish needs body, and nutritional yeast where it needs savour.
A week looks like roasted and braised meats, fish, grain bowls, curries and stir fries — food that was never leaning on cheese in the first place. Everything is cooked fresh each week by an independent local chef, with macros published on every dish and portions adjustable if you ask before the cutoff.
If you're avoiding dairy because of a milk allergy rather than a preference, that changes things. These are independent home and commercial kitchens without certified allergen controls, so tell us in the request form and we'll have a person confirm with the chef what they can genuinely commit to before you order.
Dairy Free meal prep in San Dimas: common questions
- Is dairy free the same as lactose free?
- Not quite. Lactose free products can still contain milk protein. If you react to milk protein rather than lactose, say so in your request.
- What do chefs cook with instead of butter and cream?
- Olive oil, avocado oil and ghee-free pan sauces do most of it, with coconut milk, cashew cream, tahini or a stock reduction where a dish needs richness.
- Can a chef confirm a dish has no dairy at all?
- Ask through the request form. These are independent kitchens without certified allergen controls, so we'd rather a person check with the chef than have you rely on a menu tag.
- Can chefs handle allergies?
- Sometimes, and it's a per-chef answer rather than a platform one. Chefs cook in independent home and commercial kitchens, not certified allergen-controlled facilities, so shared equipment and cross-contact are real possibilities and we won't tell you a dish is safe for a serious allergy or coeliac disease. Put the allergy, intolerance or ingredient you avoid in the request form above and a person will confirm with the chef what they can and can't commit to before you order.
- How much does it cost?
- Each chef sets their own prices and publishes them per dish, so you can see what a week costs before you commit to anything. Most single-serving meals land somewhere around $12 to $20 depending on the chef, the protein and the portion size, and there's no membership or subscription fee on top — you pay for the meals you order.
- How does ordering actually work?
- You pick a chef, choose meals from the menu they publish for that week, and order before their cutoff. They cook a day or two before delivery and bring it to you chilled, not frozen. Ordering and payment happen on the chef's own page on eatprepared.com — this site is where you find the right chef and tell us what you need.
- When do meals arrive, and are they frozen?
- Each chef cooks and delivers on their own weekly schedule — most deliver Sundays, some Mondays, and each chef's day is listed on their card above. Meals arrive chilled and freshly cooked, ready to reheat, rather than frozen in bulk and shipped from a warehouse.
- What if no chef has published the menu I want?
- Ask anyway. Chefs cook every week to order, so a diet nobody has put on a menu is still one you can request. Tell us what you need in the form above and we confirm directly with a chef what they can cook before you commit to anything — that request is also how a diet ends up on menus here in the first place.
- Is there a subscription or minimum?
- There's no membership or subscription fee — you pay for the meals you order. Individual chefs may set their own order minimums, which you'll see on their page before you check out.
- Can I change or cancel an order?
- Up to that chef's weekly cutoff, yes — message them through Prepared and they'll adjust it. After the cutoff they've usually already shopped and started prepping, so changes get harder.
